Semi-New Style Release: Vanilla Porter

Remember when you tasted the Vanilla Porter from one of our cask nights and wished that it was available more often? Well, you're in luck.

Or remember when you would get to Six Row to try the Vanilla Porter cask that everyone on Twitter was raving about, but you found it was gone already and you wished we had more of it? You are also in luck.

Or remember when you tasted the Vanilla Porter and you thought it was just OK, but you really preferred to go with a Double IPA or a Whale? Well, then this doesn't matter that much to you, but the good news is that we still have lots of DIPA and Whale for you!

We can't make EVERYONE happy with a single style release, but we think the large batch of our Vanilla Porter will please a lot of you, so that's exactly what we will be doing on Thursday, November 10th at 4pm.

After much success with adding vanilla beans to casks of our original Porter, we've produced a full tank of this wonderful beer. It's the Porter you already know and love, with a healthy dose of whole vanilla beans added to the fermenter. It's as simple and delicious as that, and starts pouring at 4PM.

This is just one of a number of releases we have coming up soon, so stay tuned here (or our Facebook page or on Twitter or on our homepage). Cheers!

Six Row Has a New Beer Style and We're Giving Stuff Away Again

We have just now tapped the batch of our newest style, the Plant No. 1 Pre-Prohibition Pilsner.

We developed this beer to celebrate the heritage of the site of our brewery and Old Plant No.1 Pub and to coincide with the premiere of Ken Burns's Prohibition documentary on PBS. Stop in and enjoy the style that is the grandfather of today's mega-lagers!

Six Row Pre-Prohibition Pilsner is made with a large percentage of our namesake six row barley malt and corn. You can read more about it from Evan Benn here and here. It will be available at the discounted rate of $4/pint until the documentary concludes on Tuesday, October 4th.

We'll air Parts 2 and 3 of Burns' documentary at our Old Plant No. 1 Pub on Monday, October 3rd and Tuesday, October 4th at 7pm for no cover charge.

We're so excited about seeing Ken Burns' take on such a controversial time in our country's history while imbibing our new style, we are going to have another contest! That's right! Who wants free stuff?!

We are going to give away a Prohibition gift set that includes a Ken Burns autographed Blu-Ray edition of Prohibition and a copy of the book, Last Call: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition, by Daniel Okrent, on which the series is based.

To enter you have three options, but only one entry per person will be allowed:

1) You can tweet using the hashtag #ProhibitionPilsner and tagging @sixrowbrewco
2) You can “Like” our contest post on our Facebook page
3) You can enter at the Pub by providing a business card or filling out one of our entry forms

We will be accepting entries from now until 7pm on Tuesday, October 4th. We will draw the winner at the bar at the conclusion of Part 3 of the documentary. You do not have to be present to win.

Good luck and party like it's 1933 and proibition has just been repealed.

Where There's Smoke, There's Good Beer (in this case)

We had a lot of fun this summer during the national and St. Louis versions of Craft Beer Week as we rolled out some small batches where we took some risks with flavors and methods to enhance our growing style portfolio. Some of them, like the Cream Ale and the Black IPA have returned as full batches for even more people to enjoy.

So, will our new Smoke Ale one day join the ranks of our regular rotation? Time will tell, but for now we'll just be releasing a small batch on this Thursday, September 22nd. We'll tap the batch at 4pm.

We brewed it with peat and apple-wood smoked malt, so it has a nice smoky/malty character. The English noble hops take a bit of a backseat for the malt profile, but our head brewer, Evan, likens it to a smoked English Pale Ale/Amber.

Come let us know what you think of it!

The Return of Bacon Porter

We have been having a great week at Six Row for St. Louis Craft Beer Week. We are thrilled to see the demand for local craft beer continuing to grow in St. Louis and we are proud to be a part of that.

We are capping off the week with a return of one of our favorite cask beers, the Bacon Porter. Back in June, we got a slab of bacon from our friends at Baumann's Fine Meats and the result was full of bacon-y goodness. It was so good that we thought it would be a great way to finish off Craft Beer Week in style.

So come on down as we tap the cask at 1pm.

We'll be giving away a specially designed Bacon Porter t-shirt today for our Hashtag of the Day contest for the winning tweet including the tag #BaconPorter.

Good luck and thanks again for supporting Six Row and St. Louis craft beer!

Trippel Your Pleasure, Trippel Your Fun

Rebecca Black likes to sing about Friday, Friday, but when she eventually turns 21 in eight years, she might have to change it to Friday, Friday, Friday after trying our Belgian Trippel.  (That was a long way to go for a weak joke, but it's the end of a busy week.)

The important thing to remember is that we'll be releasing a small batch of our Belgian Trippel style this afternoon at 4pm.  So what exactly is a Trippel?
Many people like the malty goodness of our Belgian Dubbel style, but the funny thing about Belgian Trippels is that it isn't just an intensified Dubbel as the name might suggest.  The Trippel will indeed have a higher ABV than the Dubbel, but it will be more yellow to gold colored and have a more spicy character than the darker malted Dubbel.
Sounds tasty doesn't it?

So in that spirit, today's Hashtag of the Day is #TrippelTasty and the winning tweet today gets a free growler to take home some of your favorite Six Row beer!  Happy Friday, Friday, Friday!

Celebrating National IPA Day with Peppercorn DIPA Cask (and a free t-shirt)

Normally, hopheads can enjoy our Double IPA style whenever they pop into our Old Plant No. 1 Pub, but today is National IPA Day.  Plus it is the middle of St. Louis Craft Beer Week.  So we had to take it up a notch.

Tonight at 4pm, we'll be tapping a cask of peppercorn-infused Double IPA, which should provide a spicy and tasty celebration of the day.

Additionally our Hashtag of the Day contest rolls forward.  Yesterday, @rtodaizh took home the $20 gift certificate for his #ViennaLager tweet.

Today, we're going to give out another t-shirt, so get your Twitter on with the hashtag #PeppercornCask.

Good luck!

Who Wants $20 Worth of Beer?

First, we'd like to congratulate @TKulasz on winning the growler yesterday as part of the #BIPAflight contest. You may be asking yourself what could be better than winning a t-shirt or a growler? How about $20 worth of Six Row beer?

Today's prize of the day is a $20 gift certificate that you can use during your next visit to Six Row.

So let's not waste any more time and get right to it. As St. Louis Craft Beer Week continues, we'll be releasing a small batch of Vienna Lager today at 4pm:
Akin to a German Oktoberfest/Marzen style, the Vienna Lager is a somewhat "unknown" Austrian amber lager style. It will have lots of nice toasted and biscuit-y notes to complement the clean and refreshing lager. It should also have a hint of noble hop character from the Hallertauer Mittelfrüher hops that we used.
The Hashtag of the Day is #ViennaLager so head on over to Twitter and start winning that gift certificate! (Here is how!)

Good luck!
