Six Row Cask Vote 2012

Are you tired of beer companies telling you which beers you like to drink? Do you hate hearing about how the coldness of a beer has a direct correlation to how delicious it is?

Who are these ad executives to tell you what qualities you like about a beer? Are our palates not unique? Are we not able to choose for ourselves if we desire a hoppier flavor, rather than one that is maltier? Perhaps we prefer dark and roasty instead of light and crisp. We believe there is no Divine Right when it comes to choosing beer for the people.

In this spirit, Six Row is putting the power of choice back into beer lovers’ hands. Help us elect the best choice for the April Cask Beer of the Month by voting in Six Row’s Cask Vote 2012 election.

We have nominated four strong candidates from which to choose that represent a wide range of qualities that people look for in a great cask beer:

Peppercorn Double IPA
This experienced candidate returns with an insider’s knowledge of what makes a successful cask beer

Raspberry Honey Weizen
This local candidate supports Missouri business through its use of Missouri honey and knows what St. Louis expects from a beer

Ginger Kölsch
It has a light touch, but don’t dismiss the spicy side of this candidate that can bring the heat when it counts

Chocolate Stout
It’s smooth, it’s dark, it’s sweet, but it is a serious candidate that knows what beer lovers want

Voting will begin on our next Cask Night of March 1st. We will open the voting on our web ballot at 4:00pm Central time. We'll also re-post the link on our homepage, on our Facebook page, and via Twitter at that time. Voting will end on Super Tuesday, March 6th at 8:00pm Central time.

In the meantime, those candidates need your help to get elected. If you have a cask beer you REALLY want to see us tap in April, get out and rock the vote! That means doing some heavy duty campaigning!

Spread the word via Twitter & Facebook and convince your friends that your choice is the right choice.

If you submit a slogan, a campaign poster, flyer, or banner, or even a YouTube video, we’ll choose the best one to win a $50 gift certificate good in our St. Louis Brewpub location. You can even create physical posters or banners to display in the brewpub while the campaign goes on.

You can submit material a number of ways:

  • Message our Facebook page.
  • Tweet us links or photos to @sixrowbrewco with the hashtag #CaskVote2012
  • E-mail submissions to timmcginnis (at) sixrowbrewco (dot) com (submitting via e-mail gives us permission to post material on our website or any of our social media outlets)
  • Bring a physical poster, banner or flyer to our Old Plant No. 1 Pub (AKA Election HQ) and we'll display it throughout the duration of the campaign

As we receive submissions we'll post them in our Cask Vote 2012 HQ album on our Facebook page as well as give regular unofficial polling numbers after the voting begins.

Submissions for campaign material that is eligible to win the prize will close at 11:59pm on Monday, March 5th. We'll announce the winner of the $50 prize as well as declare a winner of the election shortly after polling closes on March 6th.

So get those creative and persuasive juices flowing!

Every vote counts and we need you to choose which beer is most worthy of a place in Six Row Cask Night history. See you on the campaign trail!

Six Row Has a New Beer Style and We're Giving Stuff Away Again

We have just now tapped the batch of our newest style, the Plant No. 1 Pre-Prohibition Pilsner.

We developed this beer to celebrate the heritage of the site of our brewery and Old Plant No.1 Pub and to coincide with the premiere of Ken Burns's Prohibition documentary on PBS. Stop in and enjoy the style that is the grandfather of today's mega-lagers!

Six Row Pre-Prohibition Pilsner is made with a large percentage of our namesake six row barley malt and corn. You can read more about it from Evan Benn here and here. It will be available at the discounted rate of $4/pint until the documentary concludes on Tuesday, October 4th.

We'll air Parts 2 and 3 of Burns' documentary at our Old Plant No. 1 Pub on Monday, October 3rd and Tuesday, October 4th at 7pm for no cover charge.

We're so excited about seeing Ken Burns' take on such a controversial time in our country's history while imbibing our new style, we are going to have another contest! That's right! Who wants free stuff?!

We are going to give away a Prohibition gift set that includes a Ken Burns autographed Blu-Ray edition of Prohibition and a copy of the book, Last Call: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition, by Daniel Okrent, on which the series is based.

To enter you have three options, but only one entry per person will be allowed:

1) You can tweet using the hashtag #ProhibitionPilsner and tagging @sixrowbrewco
2) You can “Like” our contest post on our Facebook page
3) You can enter at the Pub by providing a business card or filling out one of our entry forms

We will be accepting entries from now until 7pm on Tuesday, October 4th. We will draw the winner at the bar at the conclusion of Part 3 of the documentary. You do not have to be present to win.

Good luck and party like it's 1933 and proibition has just been repealed.

Trippel Your Pleasure, Trippel Your Fun

Rebecca Black likes to sing about Friday, Friday, but when she eventually turns 21 in eight years, she might have to change it to Friday, Friday, Friday after trying our Belgian Trippel.  (That was a long way to go for a weak joke, but it's the end of a busy week.)

The important thing to remember is that we'll be releasing a small batch of our Belgian Trippel style this afternoon at 4pm.  So what exactly is a Trippel?
Many people like the malty goodness of our Belgian Dubbel style, but the funny thing about Belgian Trippels is that it isn't just an intensified Dubbel as the name might suggest.  The Trippel will indeed have a higher ABV than the Dubbel, but it will be more yellow to gold colored and have a more spicy character than the darker malted Dubbel.
Sounds tasty doesn't it?

So in that spirit, today's Hashtag of the Day is #TrippelTasty and the winning tweet today gets a free growler to take home some of your favorite Six Row beer!  Happy Friday, Friday, Friday!

Celebrating National IPA Day with Peppercorn DIPA Cask (and a free t-shirt)

Normally, hopheads can enjoy our Double IPA style whenever they pop into our Old Plant No. 1 Pub, but today is National IPA Day.  Plus it is the middle of St. Louis Craft Beer Week.  So we had to take it up a notch.

Tonight at 4pm, we'll be tapping a cask of peppercorn-infused Double IPA, which should provide a spicy and tasty celebration of the day.

Additionally our Hashtag of the Day contest rolls forward.  Yesterday, @rtodaizh took home the $20 gift certificate for his #ViennaLager tweet.

Today, we're going to give out another t-shirt, so get your Twitter on with the hashtag #PeppercornCask.

Good luck!

Who Wants $20 Worth of Beer?

First, we'd like to congratulate @TKulasz on winning the growler yesterday as part of the #BIPAflight contest. You may be asking yourself what could be better than winning a t-shirt or a growler? How about $20 worth of Six Row beer?

Today's prize of the day is a $20 gift certificate that you can use during your next visit to Six Row.

So let's not waste any more time and get right to it. As St. Louis Craft Beer Week continues, we'll be releasing a small batch of Vienna Lager today at 4pm:
Akin to a German Oktoberfest/Marzen style, the Vienna Lager is a somewhat "unknown" Austrian amber lager style. It will have lots of nice toasted and biscuit-y notes to complement the clean and refreshing lager. It should also have a hint of noble hop character from the Hallertauer Mittelfrüher hops that we used.
The Hashtag of the Day is #ViennaLager so head on over to Twitter and start winning that gift certificate! (Here is how!)

Good luck!

Tuesday's Six Row Hashtag of the Day

Thanks to everyone who participated in our Hashtag of the Day contest yesterday. The Sour Mild release was a great success and we were tapped out after about three hours. In a way, we are all winners, but in a more accurate way, @tlbarsh was the winner of the Whale of a Time t-shirt.

For our St. Louis Craft Beer Week event today, we will be serving a flight of three different Black IPA versions.

The Black IPA is actually based off the beer we made for the Schlafly Fresh Hops Festival last year. We will be releasing a large batch in the Autumn, but Evan has been debating which hops work best. So we are going to let our customers help us decide.

He's brewed three versions: one with Gelena hops, one with Summit hops, and one with Nugget hops. We'll serve all three in a flight and you can tell us which one you like best to help us decide which version will be available in the Fall. So come on in and make your choice known!

So let's get started with trying to win that growler. Be sure to tag @SixRowBrewCo and include the hashtag, #BIPAflight to enter!

Good luck, everyone!

Note:

We discovered yesterday that people with protected accounts that we don't already follow might not turn up in our Hashtag search. So if you are worried we might not see your tweet, you can comment here or on our Facebook page with your Twitter handle. Let us know you tweeted & we'll request to follow so you can enter more this week and we'll be sure to see your tweets.

Who Wants Some Free Six Row Stuff?

We're really thrilled that so many people enjoyed the release of our new Cream Ale style on Saturday. It was a great way to start off St. Louis Craft Beer Week both in our Old Plant No. 1 Pub and out in the Twitterverse.

We saw lots of people tweeting about the event. Some were sharing when the Cream Ale would be released, some were expressing excitement about getting to try it, and some were so kind as to tell everyone how much they enjoyed it once they tasted it. This all ended up being free publicity for us and we couldn't be more thankful.

But we got to thinking we should give folks a chance to get something for mentioning our beer events this week. That's only fair, right?

So we are going to give out a prize every day of St. Louis Craft Beer Week. All you have to do to enter is to send a tweet mentioning our @SixRowBrewCo Twitter handle and our Hashtag of the Day.

It's simple. We'll announce our Hashtag of the Day here on Six Row Beer Buzz and on our Facebook page each morning this week.

Today the Hashtag of the Day is #SourMildDebut since we'll be tapping a small batch of Sour Mild at 4pm today. Now you can just go ahead and Tweet out a message to your followers that includes @SixRowBrewCo and #SourMildDebut in the tweet and you'll be entered for a chance to win. The deadline to be entered into the contest will be 30 minutes before we close that day. We'll announce the randomly chosen winner the next morning and contact you via Twitter to let you know you've won.

You can enter every day if you want, but you will only be entered once per Twitter account on any given day. (So while we would love if you sent out four tweets about us on one day, you would still only be entered once for that day.)

You may be thinking, "What if I'm not feeling original. Can I just retweet someone else's message?" Yep. It's that easy.

Our first prize for Monday will be a Six Row Whale of a Time t-shirt.

We'll announce the prize of the day when we announce the Hashtag of the Day each day.

So thanks again to all those who tweeted about us for free. Now when you tweet about us, you can get free stuff! (Plus, we hope you really like the beer.)

Remember, the Hashtag of the Day is #SourMildDebut. Be sure to check back here or our Facebook page to see what the next Hashtag of the Day is!

Let's keep St. Louis Craft Beer Week rolling at Six Row!

UPDATE:
---------------------

It seems if you have a protected account and we don't already follow you, we may not see your #SourMildDebut tweets. If your account is protected and you want to make sure you are entered, you can comment here or on our Facebook page with your Twitter handle. Let us know & we'll request to follow so you can enter more this week and we'll be sure to see your tweets.
